1. We start with the one-star reviews
Five-star reviews tell you what marketing already told you. One-star reviews tell you what breaks, what arrives damaged, what stops working after six months, and what the manual does not mention. Before any product makes it into a guide, we read the negative reviews first and look for patterns. One angry customer is noise. Forty people reporting the same cracked lid is a signal.
2. Every product needs at least 1,000 owner reviews
A product with fifty reviews might be great, but there is not enough evidence to know. Our minimum threshold for a main recommendation is around 1,000 owner reviews on Amazon UK, with very few exceptions. That volume smooths out fake reviews, one-off faults, and early-adopter enthusiasm, and leaves a genuine picture of how a product performs in thousands of real UK homes.
3. Nothing below 4.2 stars gets recommended
We treat 4.2 as the floor. Below that, owner feedback consistently shows problems that no discount justifies. Products with cracking, durability, or safety complaints in their reviews are excluded regardless of their overall rating.
4. UK availability is checked, not assumed
Every product must be sold and shipped in the UK, priced in pounds, and be the actual UK model. American versions sold under the same name with different plugs, wattage, or warranties do not qualify. If a product frequently shows as unavailable or gets returned often, that is a disqualifying signal.
5. Commission never changes the pick
We earn a small commission when you buy through our links. That commission is broadly the same whichever product you choose, which means there is no financial reason for us to steer you toward one product over another. If the best product in a category earns us nothing, it still goes top of the guide.
6. Guides get updated, not abandoned
A guide published six months ago with a discontinued top pick is worse than no guide at all. When a better product launches, when prices shift significantly, or when owner reviews reveal a problem that was not visible at launch, we update the guide and note the date at the bottom.
How we read that many reviews
No human can read every review of every product, so we use AI tools to help process and organise thousands of owner reviews at scale, surfacing the recurring complaints, praise and fault patterns buried in them. What the AI does not do is decide anything. The thresholds, the exclusions, the comparisons and the final picks are human judgements, made by the editor and applied the same way to every product. Think of it as a very fast reading assistant with no opinion of its own.
What we do not do
We do not accept payment for placements. We do not run sponsored picks. We do not copy manufacturer descriptions and call them reviews. And we do not claim to have personally handled every product, because that would be a lie. Our reviews are built on the collective experience of thousands of verified owners, which we think is more useful than one person's opinion anyway.
See it in practice
Every buying guide on the site follows this exact process. Pick any guide and you will find the review counts and ratings right there under each product.
